At South Florida Kiteboarding, we make learning to kiteboard fast, safe, and fun in the most ideal conditions! Founded in 2002, our school is dedicated to offering top-notch kiteboarding instruction in South Florida’s beautiful waters, ensuring our students experience the perfect environment for learning.
Meet Melissa “KiteMermaid” Mejia, the heart and soul of South Florida Kiteboarding! Melissa moved to Florida to work as a manager and instructor at SFKB, and in 2014, she took the helm of the company, becoming Florida’s first and only female kiteboarder to own her own school. With over two decades of experience, we’ve developed a program that ensures students learn quickly and confidently, using only the latest, best gear available on the market. Mel is fluent English and Spanish.
At South Florida Kiteboarding, we’re passionate about what we do, and we share that passion with every student who joins us. We treat our students like family, helping them fall in love with kiteboarding just as we have!

- Kiteboarding Lessons
Learn in the Easiest Conditions. Our kiteboarding lessons are designed for fast, safe learning in the best possible conditions. We teach in flat, shallow waters with plenty of open space, free from crowds and obstacles, allowing you to ride in any wind direction! Learning in shallow water takes about half the time compared to deep water, meaning less time, less money, and less risk of injury. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced rider looking to learn advanced techniques, surfboard skills, or freestyle moves, we tailor our lessons to your level and goals. From the moment you hit the water, we evaluate your skills and guide you every step of the way. - Hydrofoiling Lessons– Master the Art of Hydrofoiling and Wingfoiling
Ready to take your riding to the next level? Learn to hydrofoil or wingfoil with our step-by-step program:
Start with an electric hydrofoil to understand the basics.
Progress to powered water starts on a boat, without needing a sail.
Transition to your chosen sail, whether kite or wing.
Learn in our flat waters, which range from deep to shallow, depending on your level.
Stay safe with our rescue boat and constant communication via radio helmets.
Once you’re confident, your instructor will join you on the water to teach advanced maneuvers.
Our IKO-certified instructors have extensive foiling experience in all conditions, from flat water to open swell. With top-quality gear, including single strut kites (5m-9m) and three strut kites (13m-17m), we can get you out on the water in nearly any wind condition, from light breezes to 20 knots.
No Wind? No Problem! When the wind isn’t cooperating, we offer:

Stiltsville offers the perfect kiteboarding conditions: butter-flat, shallow water, plenty of open space, and clean, consistent winds from the sea in any direction. It’s a stunning location, ideal for learning quickly and safely while enjoying breathtaking views and sunsets.
Built in the 1930s, Stiltsville is rich in history and charm. Originally a hotspot for Prohibition-era parties, the area has fascinating stories of illegal alcohol and gambling. Today, only seven of the original 27 colorful stilt houses remain, adding to the unique character of this incredible kiteboarding destination.
